Nursing students and nurses must learn about assistive devices such as canes, walkers, and crutches. This will not only help with nursing exams and the NCLEX, but it will also be a practical skill that you will use to educate patients.

The swing-to gait is a crutches walking pattern that includes swinging both feet so that they line up with the crutches. The crutches are then moved forward, and the feet will swing to the point of the crutches again.

The swing-through gait is a crutches walking pattern in which the patient moves the crutches forward, and then the patient will swing the feet ahead of the crutches and put them on the ground. Then, the crutches will advance in front of the feet, and the feet will swing-through again.

This video gives some quick tips for understanding both the swing-to and swing-through crutches pattern, and it also provides a live video demonstration of both of these techniques.
