PPE Gloves Training Demonstration: How to don and doff (put on and remove) gloves while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
When wearing PPE, it is important to follow the proper sequence to apply and remove the individual pieces of equipment. In this video, Nurse Sarah demonstrates how to put on (don) and take off (doff) gloves while wearing PPE.
When you don (put on) gloves while wearing PPE, be sure to perform hand hygiene. Don gloves by pulling the gloves onto the hand, and make sure the cuff extends over the wrist area of the gown.
To doff (remove) gloves while wearing PPE, do not touch the outside of them with ungloved hands, as they are considered contaminated. Instead, use your non-dominant hand to pinch the glove of your dominant hand near the wrist area, and pull it off the hand.
Form the removed glove into a ball with your gloved hand, and hold it securely. Then, take the index finger of the un-gloved dominant hand, and carefully slide it under the remaining glove at the wrist area, and pull it off and inside out.
Finally, dispose of the gloves per your facilities protocol, and perform hand hygiene as required (depending on PPE removal sequence and amount of equipment you are using).
PPE guidelines and sequences do change sometimes, so always follow the latest protocols for your area.
