You’ll also want to drain the collection bag into a graduated cylinder to measure the patient’s output.
Some important steps to remember include removing the stabilization device (Statlock), performing peri-care and catheter care, performing hand hygiene as necessary, donning and doffing gloves, and more.
It’s important to note the amount of water on the port so that you can attach a syringe to completely withdraw the water. Allow the syringe to pull the water out of the balloon without forcing it.
Be sure to inspect the catheter’s tip for any signs of damage, drainage, growth of substances, etc.
Document your findings, discard all used equipment per your facility’s protocols, doff gloves, and perform hand hygiene.
