Foley catheter (cath) insertion for a female. This video explains the Foley catheter sterile technique on how to insert a foley catheter on a woman as a part of a routine nursing skill procedure. A Foley catheter is inserted when a patient is unable to void or has urinary retention. It may also be used for surgical patients, as well.
Foley catheters should not be used over a long period of time due to the high risk for infection, and meticulous Foley care should be provided to prevent infection. This video is designed to help nursing students and new nurses learn about Foley catheter insertion in a female patient.
