Fluoroquinolones are a group of antibiotics that can target gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Some gram-negative it can target include H. influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia, E. coli, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa etc. And gram-positive includes Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus, Staphylococcus aureus etc.

Quinolones mechanism of action is bactericidal because it inhibits bacterial DNA replication. It does this by altering the function of the enzymes DNA gyrase and Topoisomerase IV.
Fluoroquinolones can be identified by the “floxacin” ending in its generic name. For example, some Quinolones include Ciprofloxacin and Moxifloxacin.
