Carotid pulse point examination, palpation, and location demonstration nursing skill.
In this quick video, I demonstrate how to locate the carotid pulse point and palpate it. This is a pulse point you can use to assess the pulse in patients.
I discuss the need to determine the pulse rate, pulse strength, and rhythm.
This pulse point is commonly assessed during CPR on an adult. The carotid pulse point landmarks are the trachea and sternomastoid muscle. The carotid pulse point is found between those two landmarks.
An important thing to remember is that you do not want to assess the carotid pulse on both sides at the same time due to risk of vagus nerve stimulation.
