How to open a glass ampule nursing skill technique. Nurses and other healthcare workers often have to work with glass ampules (also called ampoules or glass vials).
These glass ampules must be broken so that you can access and administer the ampoule’s contents.
In this video, provide a quick demonstration on how to open a glass ampule. Before you begin, you’ll want to check your five patient rights, perform hand hygiene, and gather your supplies.
Clean the neck of the ampule, and use a piece of gauze to break it open away from your body. Be sure to dispose of the glass ampule in an appropriate sharps container.
